Let's face it, sometimes you need more than elastic thread in your waistband. In this case, I have crocheted more rows for the waistband so that I can fold it in half and hand sew it closed. I went ahead and cut the elastic the length I needed and sewed the ends together.
Folding the top of the waistband down over the elastic ring; in the photo you see I have begun to hand sew it closed. I find this a lot easier than running the elastic through afterwards. And it doesn't roll inside the casing this way, so that makes it a no brainer in my book.
